Board Announces Career Ladder Program

The De Soto Board of Education in collaboration with our De Soto Teachers Association is proud to announce that the De Soto School District will be offering a grant program through the State of Missouri called Career Ladder.

The De Soto School District applied for the grant and was one of only 140 districts out of 530 in the state to be approved. De Soto School District is eligible to receive $489,600.00 to support academic focused activities for our De Soto students provided by teachers outside of normal contracted hours.  Out of over 66,000 teachers in the State of Missouri, under 12,000 teachers will have the opportunity to take part in the Career Ladder Program this year. De Soto teachers are included in this small percentage of individuals who have the opportunity to earn between $1,500 to $5,000. Extra hours for such things as tutoring and providing additional academic opportunities for our students are tracked toward individual Career Ladder Plans. The grant helps stretch local tax dollars, as the local commitment is only 40% and the state commitment is 60%.

Educators go above and beyond on a daily basis and with the current economy the De Soto School District is proud to be able to offer this opportunity for our students, staff, and local community through the Career Ladder grant program.
