Communication on Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Communication on Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The Jefferson County Health Department (JCHD) strongly encourages that if you do not need immediate medical attention, to call your healthcare provider to assess your condition prior to visiting a medical facility to prevent unintended exposure to medical staff.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (MO DHSS) has opened a statewide public hotline for individuals needing guidance regarding COVID-19.  The hotline is operated by medical professionals and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Symptoms

How can you help prevent the spread of the virus?  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends daily preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Cough or sneeze into the crook of the elbow or into a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces and objects.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
Jefferson County Executive Dennis Gannon, in conjunction with Jefferson County Health Department (JCHD) Director Kelley Vollmar, strongly encourage county residents to wear cloth face coverings while in public to prevent further spread of COVID-19. This is in line with current CDC guidelines to wear cloth face coverings in public settings and when around people who don't live in your household when social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
